Episode 08 – Played My First Wargame in 25 Years!

This episode’s topic is all about the first wargame match I’ve played since getting back into the hobby! My brother Alessandro and I played our first game of Frostgrave, the skirmish game from Osprey Games and author Joseph A. McCullough. We had a great time and are slowly learning the rule set. We used all the terrain I had and we’ll need to make more, lol.

Episode 07 – Cheap, Fast, High Quality – Choose Two!

This episode’s topic is just a big wide meandering ramble on quality vs price. I compare two model sets from Games Workshop and Northstar Miniatures, their quality vs cost and how and why we appreciate some things that cost more than others and when cheaper can be better. To be clear, I really like both of these companies and I’m not denigrating either one. We just often hear the phrase, “Games Workshop charges too much for their products,” but I guess I end up disagreeing for various reasons.

Episode 06 – Is Our Tabletop Gaming Hobby Art?

In this episode I ramble about whether or not miniature painting, terrain crafting, D&D adventure writing (and playing!) can be considered art. TLDR; yes, of course lol. I also chat a bit about my weekly hobby progress, which I’m happy with this week, putting together Reaper Bones Black Iron Golem, 4 Reaper mummies, 1 Reaper Dark Elf Sorceress and 3 Games Workshop Vargheists! Getting them all ready for priming and painting. In Section Charlie, where I highlight someone or something cool I’ve found on the internet, I recommend the YouTube Channel Paepercuts! His awesome diorama skills and terrain building tutorials make him an awesome guy to watch and learn from.

Episode 05 – Brute Force Your Motivation

In this episode I ramble about the struggle some of us have with getting down to work with our hobby stuff! Have you ever had a problem with motivation? Have you wondered why sometimes you can imagine doing your hobby work but just can’t quite physically get over to the work bench, the painting table, the writing desk? I deal with this constantly and … I think I have the ugly answer for all of us. I also discuss my current week’s hobby progress, which includes finishing up the Games Workshop Gryph-Hounds and using Rustoleum’s Frosted Glass spray to matte coat and seal both finished miniatures and scatter terrain pieces. In Section Charlie (a.k.a. What’s Something Cool I Found Online This Week) I highlight the miniature painter @darcy_bono_creations on Instagram and the commission work she’s been doing with Games Workshop models.

Episode 04 – How The Movie Industry Killed My Hobbies

In this episode I talk about how getting hired to create models for Hollywood movies killed my hobbies (due to how much work I was doing and how little time off I had to pursue gaming and miniature painting and model-building)! I also discuss my current week’s hobby progress with tabletop wargaming terrain and I gush about the miniature painter (and kit-basher) Borgnine and his grimdark legions of undead he’s creating for Warhammer games.

Episode 03 – How I Got Into Warhammer

In this third episode I talk about discovering Warhammer and real model-making/miniature hobbying! And I clarify what exactly it is about the Arcane Library’s Adventure Modules that I found so “awesome” in Episode 01.
